The Mental Health First Aid program at Seattle University aims to foster a community that normalizes mental health conversations, reduces stigma, and cultivates a culture of care grounded in the Jesuit principle of cura personalis. We utilize the nationally recognized Mental Health First Aid curriculum to empower students, faculty, and staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognize early, worsening, and crisis signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, engage in supportive conversations, and connect individuals to appropriate care and resources.

Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Mental Health First Aiders are students, educators, first responders and veterans. They’re neighbors, parents and friends. They’re people in recovery, and those supporting a loved one. Mental Health First Aiders are anyone who wants to make their community healthier, happier and safer for all.
